It's a well known by the locals at the Whistler ski resort in Canada
Seal (yes the singer) can
regularly be seen snowboarding on Blackcomb and Whistler Mountains. And
holds a special place in his heart. How do I know? Well, when it came
time to propose to his
now wife Heidi Klum (not a bad choice), he did it right here
in the coastal mountains of British Columbia...
"I proposed on Dec. 23 at 14,000 feet in Whistler, B.C., in
terrain on a glacier, in a natural snow cave, in an igloo built just
for the moment." - SEAL
Update 2012: Unfortunately Seal and Heidi have
called it quites. But hey, that doesn't mean that Whistler isn't still
a great place for a romantic getaway.

Here's what Heidi had to say about the special occasion...

Why would a superstar like Seal choose the Whistler ski resort in
Canada over every
other place in the world to propose to his bride to be?

Well, if you
have been to Whistler you know, and if not, I guess you
will just have to visit for yourself to really
(And by the way, it's not just Seal and Heidi who come to Whistler
less than the Prince of Wales and his two sons (I think their names are
William and Harry) visited a few years ago
to take in some of the resort's legendary skiing.)
Now, so far I haven't been lucky enough to spot Heidi or any princes on
the slopes. (In fact many celebrities prefer skiing and snowboarding
holidays because they can move about easier without being recognized.)
But I did recently see an "up and coming" model on Whistler Mountain...
year old son Callum!
7 Year Old Son Callum Modeling In The Boden Catalogue, Whistler Mt,
April the U.K. based clothing company "Boden" came to
Whistler ski resort in Canada to shoot its Winter 2008/2009 kids
catalogue. So when Callum
(who does the occasional TV commercial and
modeling jobs here in Vancouver) got the call to go to Whistler for the
shoot, we decided to combine it with a family weekend getaway
and get some late season skiing in as well.
April can be a great month to visit Whistler Blackcomb. It's not
uncommon to get "mid-winter" skiing and snowboarding conditions in
April making for some great days on the slopes. And because it is late
in the season, there are many deals to be had around the resort, most
notably big discounts on Whistler accommodations. After a quick look at
the photo shoot you can see some of the pictures I took while skiing
that weekend, as well as a look at the nice hotel we stayed in.

So while Callum was bringing home the bacon, Dad was catching some late
season "springish" skiing on Whistler Mt. The day started out...
a little overcast at the base in Whistler Village...
with a little bit of snow falling at the top of the Whistler Mt
the blue skies opened up near the top of the Emerald Chair to make for
a great ski day.
The day reminded me of the old saying in Whistler...
you don't like the weather...
just wait a minute!"
And it is so true. The weather can change from top to bottom, and
minute to minute.
As you can see, the conditions were amazing.
After A Hard Days Work On Whistler Mountain...
Well, a hard days work for some of us. For others it was a hard days
"play". Nonetheless, we needed a little R & R as booked into the
Village Suites in Whistler Village
Our hard working model grabbed...
A swim (you can enter the pool from indoors which is nice),
a hot tub and sauna,
and took a trip to the Solarice Spa.
Alright, he skipped the spa, but it was conveniently located right in
lobby of the hotel.
To top of the day we stayed "close to home" and headed for Milestone's
Restaurant which is located right in the Delta Whistler Hotel.
***Update 2011: Milestone's Restaurant has changed locations (now at
the base of Blackcomb Mountain). The restaurant in the Delta is now an
Elephant & Castle.
Milestone's is one of two restaurants (the other being Hy's Steakhouse)
that are located right at the Delta.
All in all a great day at the Whistler ski resort in Canada. But hey,
when you can get paid to
ski Whistler Mt how can you go wrong? Now I'm off to talk to my son
about my allowance ;)
