The Ins And Outs Of The Whistler
"Get a Whistler Edge Card."
At least 50% of the time that's the advice that I offer to folks who
ask me how to get the biggest discount on lift tickets at Whistler
Blackcomb. In fact, I gave that same advice this morning to my younger
brother and his family who are coming out from Toronto to ski with us
at Whistler Blackcomb during the March Break this winter.
Why only 50% of the time you ask? Well, for starters, not
everyone qualifies to purchase an Edge Card. And even if they do,
sometimes there are better options available to them. In other words,
it's not a straightforward answer.
That's why I recommend "taking a ride" on our Whistler
before you purchase any Whistler ski lift tickets or passes. It walks
step by step through a series of questions, at the end of which you
will end up with the best (read cheapest) way to get up Whistler and
Blackcomb Mountains. In many instances, the best way will be an Edge Card. But then
not. All it takes is a few moments to make sure you're getting the
biggest lift ticket discounts.

Whistler Edge Card Details
Alright, let's get down to business and take a look at the details of
the Edge Card.
are some of my old cards I have kept over the years. "Back in the day"
they used to be called "Express" Cards and my hair wasn't going grey!
As you can see from the photo above (right) I purchased my
card way back in 1994 when they used to be called "Express" cards. I'm
not sure exactly when the name changed to "Edge" from "Express" but I think it
was sometime in the early 2000's. Nonetheless, I have been a member for
18 years and continue to find this the best deal going when
it comes to Whistler Blackcomb lift passes.
Do You Qualify For A
Whistler Edge Card?
Don't worry, "qualifying" for an edge card simply comes down to where
you live. (No tests or credit checks required, just proof of residence.)
If you live in Canada or Washington State you are in business. Simply
order your Edge Card online and pick it up from one of the Whistler
Guest Relations offices (located at each of the three bases) when you
arrive at the resort. When you do pick it up you will be asked to show
proof of residency as well as photo ID.

Now, if you don't live in Canada
or Washington State, there are other options for receiving discounts on
your lift tickets. As I said above, the best thing to do is run through
Ticket Wizard to find out which option is the best for you.
A couple of things to note:
- Make sure that you order your Whistler Edge Card online at least
48 hours prior to your arrival. By doing so you will save yourself $15
on a one day edge card (no savings on a 3 or 5 day cards), but perhaps
more importantly you will save yourself some time when you arrive at
the mountain. The last thing that you want to do is spend 45 minutes at
Guest Relations your first morning in Whistler Resort sorting out your
lift tickets, when you could be up enjoying the mountains!
- Only one Edge Card per person per winter season. In other words,
you can't buy 3 separate 1-day cards if you want to ski or
snowboard 3 days.
How Does It Work?
Edge Cards come pre-loaded with either 1, 3, 5 or 10 days of discounted
skiing/riding. As logic would suggest, the more days that you buy
up front, the cheaper it is per day. And once your pre-loaded day(s)
used up, you continue to benefit as the price of each subsequent day on
the mountains is also discounted.
Note that the 10-Day edge passes are only available before the ski
Is It A Good
In a word... YES. And it is an especially good deal if you purchase
your card before
season starts. By doing so you will enjoy an extra 10% to 15% savings
over the regular season prices.
In fact, if you want the best deal
you should make sure that you purchase a
Whistler Edge Card for next season before this winter season
ends. Not only will you guarantee yourself the best pricing, if you
purchase a 5 or 10 day card you will get a free bonus day of skiing or
snowboarding before Christmas of the following season.
In addition, (and with a little advanced planning and flexibility)
actually ski or snowboard the entire length of your next Whistler
vacation for only $79! (That's $79 total
per day.) Click

What Does A Whistler Edge Card Cost?
What you will pay for a Whistler Edge Card (and subsequently what you
will end up paying per day of skiing or riding) depends on a number of
factors that may include:
- How many days you purchase
- How old you are
- When you purchase your card, and
- How you purchase your card.
The tables a little further down the page lay all of this out quite
How Much Can You Save?
Here's the simple answer... A one day Edge Card, purchased online at
least 48 hours prior to arrival, will cost you $84 (for an adult, plus
taxes). This alone represents a $15 savings over what you would pay for
a one day lift ticket purchased at the resort.
On the other end of the savings spectrum, if you were to pre-purchase a
10-day Edge Card by the first week of May for next season
, you could ski for
about $54 per day.
Is A Whistler Edge Card Better Than A Multi-Day Lift Pass?
As a rule, yes. The exceptions to the rule occur if you plan on doing
all of your skiing or snowboarding early or late in the season.
